We hope you had a wonderful summer holiday and are now refreshed and ready for the new term.
We have planned an exciting term. Our topic will be “Everything Ancient.” We will be looking at the civilisation of the Ancient Egyptians – learning about the Pharaohs, the Gods, the pyramids and mummies. In Literacy we will read and write myths and legends. We will share Greek, Roman and Egyptian stories and read traditional legends. In Numeracy we will begin with the number system and place value, and then move onto addition and subtraction, followed by multiplication, and then the properties of two and three dimensional shapes. We will start a new Mental Maths scheme this year, where we work on skills for ten minutes a day. We also have a new online Maths programme called IXL to use too. Our Science work starts with Keeping Healthy. We will look at the function of the heart and lungs in depth. We will learn about the effects of smoking. This will link with work on Healthy Me in PHSE.
Swimming will start on the 16th September. Our Welcome Meeting for Parents is also on the 16th September at 2.15pm. Year 5 will have French on Wednesday afternoon and PE on Thursday afternoon. Mrs Bennett will be teaching 5A every Tuesday. Mrs Blandford and Mrs Grayston will work in our year group.
If you are able to help us with Guided Reading, swimming or Arts Week (4th November) please let us know. We hope to hold Guided Reading sessions on Tuesdays at 2.40pm.
