Happy New Year!
Welcome back to a new term and 2014! We have a busy term ahead of us. First of all we welcome Mrs Harrison to the Year 5 team and to Manor Farm Juniors. Mrs Harrison will be teaching 5B whilst Mrs Baker will be on maternity leave. She has already taught at the school for several days this year, and will join us from the start of term so the transition will be smooth. Mrs Baker is due to leave us at the end of January, and we all wish her, her husband and "bump" well. Mrs Bennett continues to teach 5A on Tuesdays.
Our new topic will be The Earth. We will look at the earth's place in the solar system. We will track how our planet moves to give us day and night, and the seasons. We will see how the earth, sun and moon are linked together and will look inside the earth to see how natural disasters are caused. In Literacy we will begin by reading classic narrative poetry. We will then move on to report writing and persuasive writing, looking at topical issues such as High Speed 2. In Maths we will begin with work on data handling, and then move on to measures - weight, length, capacity and time.
5B will continue their Friday Music sessions until the end of February, when they will give a performance. After that 5A will start Music on Fridays. Some children will take part in a swimming competition this term. All of Year 5 will be visiting Woodrow at the end of term.
We thank you for your continued support.
